Title is an HTML element containing the document’s name. It appears in the head section and is usually displayed in the browser tab. On a Joomla website, the final title depends on page settings, menu context and the component rendering the page.
Title and H1
Title names the document and is not rendered as ordinary page content. H1 is the visible main heading. They can convey the same subject but serve different purposes. For example, an article’s H1 might be “How to update Joomla”, while its title is “How to update Joomla — a practical guide”.
The title attribute on a link or image is a separate feature. It does not replace the title element in head or set the document’s name.
The search result heading
A search engine may use title without displaying it word for word. Google generates its result heading automatically and also considers visible headings and other sources.
No universal character count guarantees full display in search: available width varies by device and result layout. Write concise, accurate titles for individual pages and avoid repeated keywords.
Configuration in Joomla
In Joomla, distinguish an article’s title from the Browser Page Title in menu item settings and the global setting that adds the site name. Extensions may provide their own SEO title field or change the result through plugins.
Check the page at its actual public URL: the selected menu item and component affect document generation. Changing one article field does not necessarily change the title on every route to that content.
Checking the result
After clearing the relevant cache, inspect the browser tab and the title element in the page’s source HTML. Ensure it matches the subject and language of the content. Check important pages individually for empty values and duplicate titles on different content.
Summary
Title identifies a document’s topic but does not guarantee an exact search result heading. In Joomla, inspect the final page HTML as well as the field in the administrator interface.
